O Frabjous Day!

Calloo, callay!

Saskatoon used to have no squirrels, as far as I knew.

But there. Today. In an actual tree. In my own actual front yard. An actual squirrel.

And he was gorgeous.

He was sleek and agile, all graceful pauses and bursts of speed. Like a tiny James Bond in a red furry suit, don't you know, dahlingk.

Come again soon, squirrel of mystery.

That's right--I keep forgetting you don't usually have actual squirrels there! It seems strange, like saying that there isn't any grass anywhere there.

Of course, my husband seems to think that Michigan is a kind of exciting outback teeming with never-before-glimpsed exotic animal life: fireflies, opossums, skunks, dragonflies, and so forth.

As for my part, I really wish we had hedgehogs.

And I think opossums would be lovely to spot in the wild.

The wild, huh--what about if they're walking along the sidewalk, looking for trash (or bird eggs, or whatever it is they look for)?

I seem to remember he was actually a little afraid to go outside the house for a while after that.

Actually, I think possums are cute, though many seem to find them outright hideous for some reason. Possibly the tail.
